What Did I Just Do? A Holidays 2024 Viewing ReCap in Hallmark and Chabert

It was a Chabertmas

In 2024, Jamie and I just decided we were bailing on our usual annual viewing options and going to try to watch new-to-us movies, and - at some point - decided we were going to just watch the offerings that were the lightest, most-conflict-averse films we could dig up.

This didn't always work out.  We did watch Christmas Eve in Miller's Point, which was nothing but conflict.  And I watched the 2006 remake of Black Christmas.

We started off watching an older Alicia Witt movie the weekend before Thanksgiving, and attending a screening of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever the next night.

I will admit - I think there's probably two or three movies on here we could probably add, but I was kind of in and out of the movies, and so I'm not going to.  I'm sure you'll be fine.  But the grand total of what I want to claim is that we watched 24 Holiday movies in the Holiday Season, 2024.

Of those movies, we watched 16 movies that had originally aired on Hallmark, even if we caught them elsewhere, like Netflix, Amazon, etc...  which means we only watched 8 non-Hallmark movies.

Of our 24 movies, we watched 9 movies starring Lacey Chabert, most of which were Hallmark, with stand out exceptions like Hot Frosty and Black Christmas.  There's probably a lot to be said and guess at regarding why Chabert has wound up as the go-to star for Christmas movies.  Mostly, I think she's minimally annoying and you can drop her into any situation and can kind of buy her as a waitress, a banker, whatever...  But the Chabert puzzle is one to solve on some other day.

I am still counting Winter in Vail as a Holiday movie because I was duped, and Strudelfest is sort of a holiday.

We didn't see anything mind-blowing when it came to holiday viewing, and this was tucked in with some other television and sports viewing.  We also watched things like the NBC broadcast of the lighting of the tree at Rockefeller Center, various Christmas concerts - including The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and a Kylie Minogue concert we found on YouTube.

But as I've been striving to watch "New To Me" things, this year's selection of 90 minute flicks has helped push that along.

By far, the hardest thing to watch was The Munsters' Scary Little Christmas.   I will say The Best Christmas Pageant Ever was better than I expected.  And that, overall, Hallmark's trajectory is still on the up-climb.  I'm not quite sure what to make of Netflix's efforts, but I'm not mad at Hot Frosty.  Lord knows I've seen worse.
