That's roughly 2.8 movies per week. I don't know if that's low or high. It probably explains why I don't watch as much series TV if that's 5 - 7 hours of TV viewing time per week.
You can read posts in which I discuss the movies of 2012 at the Movies 2012 label.
Methodology
The number 147 includes only the movies I watched in their entirety - from beginning to end. That number does not include partially watched movies.
Ex: I didn't report watching the second half of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on cable, or bits of things I'd catch on HBO or whatever.
I didn't eliminate duplicate viewings of the same movie. If I watched Coneheads 3 times, I would list it 3 times.
I also listed the movies by the genre in which I think they were originally intended to be seen. If I watched a western but felt it was hilarious because it was so bad, I still counted it as a western. Also, a lot of movies ride a fine line between genres, and as this isn't data for an NEH grant or anything, I'm just going to make this easy on myself.
Genre:
Action - 10
Ballooning - 1
Comedy - 23
Documentary - 12
Drama - 15
Horror - 12
Kaiju - 4
Kids - 8
Musical - 3
Noir - 27
Sci-fi - 10
Superhero - 16
Western - 3
Sparkle Vampire - 1
Decade of Release:
1920's - 0
1930's - 7
1940's - 16
1950's - 21
1960's - 14
1970's - 3
1980's - 15
1990's - 8
2000's - 16
2010's - 45
...and then we watched one movie that was released in one form in 1958 and re-released in another form in 1976. I leave it to you to figure out which movie this might have been.
For the record, we watched: 29 new movies released in 2012, so I'm not entirely avoiding the cinema, I suppose.
The Master List
And, here, culled from my blog in reverse chronological order, from most recent to the beginning of January 2012, are the movies I watched, and therefore, blogged in 2012.
Dang, what you can't do with Google Drive these days.
I'll talk a bit more about the actual experience in the next post on Movies 2012.
